Where to trail run near Hanoi

Real mountains sit within reach of the capital — Ba Vì, Tam Đảo, Sóc Sơn and Hàm Lợn are the weekend classics.

Hanoi runners are lucky: within one to two hours you can be on a proper climb. These are the go-to spots for weekend trail sessions.

Ba Vì National Park — ~60 km

The closest real mountain. Forested switchbacks and a famous stair climb to the temples on Tản Viên — the classic vertical workout near the capital.

Sóc Sơn & Hàm Lợn — ~40 km

Rolling hills, pine and reservoir trails, closest to the city. Perfect for a first trail run or an easy long day.

Tam Đảo (Vĩnh Phúc) — ~80 km

Cooler air and steep, misty forest above the old hill station. Steady, sustained climbing.

Further afield: Mộc Châu & Sa Pa

For big-mountain days, the northwest is a few hours more — Mộc Châu's tea hills and Sa Pa's terraces, home to Vietnam's flagship races.
